Loo-a-vuul, Looeyville, Louisville City Guide
As you may have read in my previous post, my mom and I recently spent a long weekend in Louisville, Kentucky. It was a rather spontaneous trip, as we just looked at the larger cities around us that could be done on a weekend, and since neither of us had spent much time in Louisville, that was our decision. It was definitely a good decision, and we both had a great time. We actually packed several things into our two days and so I thought that I would share some of those here.
* The Seelbach Hotel - this is the hotel we stayed at, and you can read more about that in my post about it specifically, but it is an amazingly historic hotel. Even if you don't stay there, it is still beautiful and I definitely recommend checking it out. You can poke around, or ask for a tour. There is also a restaurant and bar off of the lobby which is worth a stop.
*The Brown Hotel - we didn't stay here, but we did definitely check it out. We had already planned on seeing it, but they my grandma told us that she and my grandpa stayed here once when they were first married, so we knew we had to check it out. It was so elegant and also full of history. There is a restaurant in the hotel and you can just walk around and check it out also. For fans of Orlando Bloom, this is also where they filmed the movie Elizabethtown.
*Louisville Slugger Museum - home to the world's largest bat and a museum and factory tour that is not to be missed.
*Frazier History Museum - I love a good museum, especially one that features local history, this is one not to be missed. When we were there, there was an exhibit featuring items from the film, White Christmas, and that is what we went for, however, the entire museum is interesting and entertaining.
*21C Hotel Museum - this is an art museum that is connected to a hotel and it is open even later than most of the museums on this list and those nearby.
* Grind Burger- excellent veggie burger. We chose it because it was on diners drive-ins and dives. Guy Fieri kills it again.
* Porch - excellent food close to the hotel - we walked there
* Wild Egg - darn good brunch but prepare for a wait
* Please and Thank You - darn good chocolate chips cookies and a drink called the Laura Palmer - they had me at the pop culture reference but kept me with the flavor.
Honorable Mention - Waverly Hills Sanitorium is close, and while we didn't go on this trip, I can assume from its reputation that it is not be missed. the only reason we didn't go is because my mom is not a fan of spooky stuff.
I hope to make it back to Louisville again soon. It was a great weekend trip. It felt like getting away but it also wasn't a crazy busy weekend that left us feeling more stressed than when we left. If you hit up any of these places definitely let me know.
