Bottom Of The New River Gorge
On our most recent trip into the mountains of West Virginia, we ventured down to the bottom of the New River Gorge. We first spent some time at the visitor center at the end of the bridge. There is a visitor center there and several overlooks. This is also where you arrive for the bridge walk, which is something that I definitely want to go back and do. After we looked around at the visitor center and got my passport cancellation, we began to head down to the bottom of the river. This would be a lovely hike, but since it was a little cold and we were also in a bit of a hurry, we decided to drive to the bottom. It was so beautiful. The sound of the rushing water and the rapids was so relaxing and stunning. The water was also very cold, but that is to be expected for early April I suppose. The temperature of the water didn't stop me from dipping in my toes though. I was traveling with my mom and my grandparents and we all just quietly sat on the side of the river and listened. My grandparents also enjoyed identifying the plants they found. It was a such an amazing time and I loved how quiet it was, that is definitely one advantage to going in the off season. We were the only ones down there for a good amount of the time. After we had sufficiently explored the area we drove back to the top and on to our next stop.
